The AutoML conference has successfully hosted contributed tutorials in its first three editions. This year, we will adapt this well-received track for the fourth edition.
We invite researchers interested in presenting a tutorial or organizing a workshop to submit proposals.
The tutorials will be presented in plenary sessions on one of the initial three days of the conference (September 8-10, 2025). The workshop sessions will be held on the final day of the conference (September 11, 2025).
Proposals will be reviewed by the tutorial chairs, and a final decision on which session will be presented at the conference will be made in close consultation with the program chairs. We will determine the number of sessions based on the number of submissions and the overall conference program (e.g., invited talks, other program items).
Objectives
Our goal is to go beyond only hosting tutorials, but instead provide the opportunity for hosting both a workshop-style event on a concise topic within the field of AutoML and tutorials. This can be used to host inspiring events for a certain topic or to differently work on community building for subfields of AutoML.
Tutorials
The tutorials should provide an accessible overview of recent trends, emerging topics, and future challenges in the field of AutoML. They should potentially include a hands-on session and be relevant to AutoML. We specifically request that presenters refrain from focusing solely on their own work and instead provide an overview of the field as a whole. Due to the limited number of tutorials (as they will be held during plenary sessions), we request topics of broad interest and avoid niche topics. Each tutorial will have a duration of 1.5 hours, including discussion time. Speakers are expected to limit their presentation to 75 minutes, leaving 15 minutes for questions and discussion.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Significance of the topic to the overall AutoML community
- Experience of the tutorial organizers (ideally, at least one organizer has prior experience past experience with tutorials and/or teaching)
Workshops
Each session is a half-day event with keynotes, tutorials, contributed talks, and poster sessions. We expect a good mix of the different session types, and we are also looking forward to your own suggestions. The above list is also meant rather as an idea and is neither exhaustive nor are all session types required.
This year’s workshop proposal could include ideas with these components.
- Keynotes
- Tutorial
- Bring your poster
- Contributed Talk
- Lightning Talk
- Round table discussions
- Discussion session
- Your own ideas
Evaluation Criteria:
- Significance of the topic to the overall AutoML community (who would attend your workshop)
- Relation to the main conference program (i.e., how it relates to invited talks)
- Quality of the program (speakers, novel items)
- Experience of the workshop organizers (ideally, at least one organizer has prior experience organizing workshop events at conferences)

- Proposal Submission: 28.05.2025

Additional Information
- By submitting a tutorial, all speakers agree to give an in-person presentation in New York City. There might be concerns obtaining a visa to travel to the United States in a timely fashion. The organizing committee is committed to accommodating any presenters affected by such issues and will be working with presenters on finding a solution. After having several presenters not show up and also not notify the organizers, we reserve the right to remove organizer names from the session if they do not appear and do not work on a solution with the organizers prior to the conference. Please contact the chairs early on if you foresee that you cannot join.
- Submitting a tutorial or workshop proposal does not guarantee a slot. The applications will be reviewed and a subset of the proposals will be given the chance to present the tutorial or workshops at the conference in New York City.
